The large 3-position armless click-clack mechanism is a wide-bodied click-clack mechanism in which the backrest can be locked at three separate angles. The stepped catch on the body holds the back in the sitting, reclining and bed positions, and it does not fall closed on its own in the intermediate positions. Having no side arm, it fits into narrow frames.

How do you move between the three positions?
As the backrest is raised the stepped catch engages in turn and holds the back at that angle. After the last position the backrest is released and returns to its starting position; this is the standard way stepped mechanisms work.
Can the 3-position type also be used as a bed?
Yes. The third position brings the backrest fully horizontal, and sliding the seat forward creates the bed surface. The intermediate positions are for sitting in a reclined posture.
Does the stepped structure wear the mechanism out faster?
No. The steps are the locking points of the mechanism itself; the backrest rests against the body in every position, so the force is not concentrated at a single point.
