A gas spring is a component that assists the lifting of a bed base lid or a mechanism and slows its descent. The pressurised gas inside pushes the piston outwards and takes on part of the lifting force, and it also brakes the movement while closing so the lid does not slam shut. This product is 360 mm long.

What force of gas spring does my lid need?
The required force is determined by the weight of the lid, its distance from the hinge axis and how many gas springs will be used. Send us your lid dimensions and weight and we can calculate the right force together.
How many are used on one lid?
They are usually fitted as a symmetrical pair at both sides of the lid, so it rises evenly without leaning to one side. On very light and narrow lids a single unit may be sufficient.
What material is the gas spring made from?
The body is made of steel, protected with an electrostatic coating. We can manufacture in different sizes and surface treatments to suit your requirements.
Does the gas spring work in one direction only?
The gas piston both assists the lift and slows the descent. It is this second function that stops the lid from slamming shut.
Will the gas spring hold the lid open on its own?
When specified at the right force, it holds the lid open. Where safety is critical, using it together with a locking mechanism is the better choice.
